Resilience, the new challenge in earthquake engineering
IAEE President's invitation
I am delighted to have this opportunity on behalf of IAEE to join Chairman Professor Rodolfo Saragoni in inviting you to attend the Sixteenth World Conference on Earthquake Engineering. The conference will be hosted by the Chilean Association of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering and all members of the multi-disciplinary global community of scientists, engineers, architects, planners and policy officials interested in promoting earthquake risk reduction are encouraged to attend. These world conferences have been taking place every four years from their inception in 1956 and offer a stimulating environment for the global exchange of knowledge, ideas, research results and practical experience.
As the world's population increases and development expands, earthquake risk continues to grow. Sharing our knowledge and experiences and interacting with colleagues from many different countries helps us work towards reducing this risk.
Our Chilean colleagues have prepared a wonderful conference for us in Santiago, a vibrant and exciting city, that includes offering opportunities to learn first-hand from their recent rebuilding experiences. The scientific program, side activities and opportunities to enjoy what Chile has to offer its guests will make the conference a memorable event. I look forward to seeing you all there.
